Unleashing the exquisite beauty of Lampposts. What is Lamppostporn?
When I embark on my travels to new towns and places, I’m always on the lookout for unique character. Lampposts, often overlooked, play a significant role in reflecting local heritage and style. They carry an intrinsic visual clue, showcasing the type of history that has unfolded in and around the location. Over time, these lampposts have witnessed the transition from gas lighting and incandescent bulbs to modern LED technology. However, their outer shell casings remain intact, preserving the essence and capturing the tone of their placement.
It all began with my spontaneous social media posts of intriguing lampposts, captured solely for their aesthetic appeal, using my keen photographic eye. On a subsequent trip, while exploring Stratford Upon Avon, I stumbled upon a remarkable area adorned with diverse lampposts sourced from different parts of the country. These lampposts were gifted as a symbol of national community and solidarity, serving as a testament to the craftsmanship and uniqueness found in each region.
The stark contrast in regional designs left me awestruck. Local industrialists and designers had infused these lampposts with their distinct and eccentric flair, rivalling even the iconic red phone boxes designed by Giles Gilbert Scott. The variety is truly astonishing, reflecting a wonderful combination of ingenuity and industriousness. As my fascination grew, I found myself capturing more and more pictures under the hashtag #Lamppostporn.
